I wish your wife great success in the job hunt. This is certainly a struggle shared by many.
With the volunteering, I think she's on the right track. This is a good way for any newcomer to start out on the right foot in a new place.
People everywhere prefer to hire someone they have a connection with. They can ask around to find out what kind of person they are, etc. Here the networking is more casual than some other places, but getting out there to make connections and get to know people is critical. Volunteering is great way to do this!
I believe that one of the reasons I got the job I have is because when my boss asked around in the community, folks knew me and had good things to say. While this was never my motivation for volunteering, it allowed me to meet people that I might otherwise not have. Plus, your wife gets to help the furry folks at Rainbow Friends which is something to be proud of all on its own. [
