Can anyone translate these words:
Hukilau
Kala's Kua Puka
My son bought a home in Ohio and it has a finished basement. Near the bar entrance, the first word above appears. On the way out the other words appear. I think the word Kala's refers to the previous owners name but not sure what the other words mean.
Can anyone offer some translation?

Hukilau = I think refers to surround net fishing from shore, usually with a larger group of participants. Group effort.
Puka = hole
Kua = possibly husband
I'm guessing Kala's Kua Puka = Kala's husband hole as in that's his den.
Just guessing here.

wondering if kala meant: kala's bar; kala's watering hole.
kua also refers to the third brew from kava.
that would be my interpretation being that you found the words near the bar. of course, i could be wrong.

I pulled this out of my okole, but a hukilau is like a net/fishing party. Throw nets. Eat food. Celebrate.
Kala's Kua Puka would be something like Kala's hole, the one in back (to put it politely). Or it could mean Kala's manhole. Either way, I want to go.
