Vanilla

Do the vanilla beans need any type of extra care to make sure they are not damaged while growing? Are they bothered by pesky bugs? Boy that would be a bummer to have gone through all the work, wait and worry to have a darn bug eat the prize bean!

The only thing that I have found is the slugs will eat the leaves. Not a big deal to correct. They like shade so I grow mine under shade cloth.

Thanks Jerry. I had read that they flower more if they are under stress first but it didn't say when to trim. I think I will trim back in Feb. like you suggested.
