This is an alert - Katrina / now thousands of animals need your help, to contact your political officials - Ed Case, Dan Inouye, the President, any and all will only make a difference. Time is running out for thousands of animals. Many are locked behind closed doors in the disaster Zone, and will die of starvation. We need a full commitment from the govenment to allow its troops, when they go house to house looking for people to also rescue the animals. Please go to HSUS.org for website links to our government officials. This is urgent. Clock is ticking, these animals depend on you. These people have lost everything, but why do they have to lose all hope of every recovering their animals? Please make the difference and go to www.HSUS.org website and link onto the email alerts.

Resolution N0. 177-05 was voted and adopted by the County Council on Oct 5, 2005. Its a resolution declaring October 16, 2005, as National Feral Cat Day in and for the County of Hawai'i.

Whereas, October 16 is National Feral Cat Day, a day dedicated to educating communities about Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), the only humane, effective, and cost-effective means of reducing stray and feral cat populations; and

Whereas, TNR stops the cycle of breeding, ends the killing of healthy animals, and reduces complaints about and cost associated with feral cats; and

Whereas, scientific evidence and experience in the United States and other countries demonstrates that non-lethal TNR, accompanied by ongoing feral cat colony management, is the only way to reduce feral cat populations in the long-term; and

Whereas, caring individuals and groups are effectively applying TNR to feral cat colonies all across the County of Hawai'i;

Be it therefore resolved, that the County of Hawai'i does hereby endorse non-lethal Trap-Neuter-Return, when accompanied by ongoing feral cat management, as the most effective, humane method of reducing feral cat population in the County of Hawai'i; and

Be it further resolved, that the County of Hawai'i does hereby proclaim October 16, 2005, to be National Feral Cat Day in and for the County of Hawai'i and encourage all citizens t support Trap-Neuter-Return for feral cats throughout the County of Hawai'i.

This Oct 16, Sunday, I will be outside of the Hilo Safeway with Mary and Sandi from 9am to 4pm. Please come and sign our affordable or no-cost Spay & Neuter petition for dogs and cats. Every signature is important, so come and sign. Be a voice for the animals, and stop unwanted births that leads to abuse and abandonment. Also, we will have information on Trap-Neuter & Release. Information on other animal organizations on this island like Advocats, etc., and if you are already feeding cat colonies, come and let us know and join our support group.
With aloha
