Dells has a bag of wood chips for about 10 bucks. Its not saw dust.A cabinet shop might have a pile of untreated saw dust.

Alex,
How much do you need? I know of several woodworkers on here, but don't know the amounts of dust/chips they would have at any particular time. Woodturners also put out massive amounts of chips and dust, you could try contacting the B.I. Woodturners' club. I imagine all this would even be free.

Alex,
Look up some of the local lumber mills, they'll have all you could possibly need and you can get species specific from local tree stock. A typical place to find them (if not in the yellow pages) will be on Craigslist under building materials or you can do a web search on Koa or other island species woods to find the mills here on the Big Island. We haven't got to setting up a mill yet, otherwise I could give you some now. If you don't need it now, we've several old growth Mango logs from the Hamakua Coast we'll be milling up in the next few months. We should have both - chainsaw chips and band saw dust from those butt logs. Hope that helps you out. E ho'a'o no i pau kuhihewa.

There is a guy who runs his own mill south of Home Depot several blocks, makai of the highway. Look around for some piles of logs. He has a ton of sawdust and shavings. Free last time I was there.
