An Imu ?? why am I really surprised ?? next thing your gonna say is your adopting one of the buffalos. Anyways, no the kids are not coming this time. I'm going to bull doze a pad and drive way. Then in the summer they will come out and I will pour a concrete pad.
Simple 2 story, the first floor "hollow block tile" cinder block tile with a garage type roll up on one end and sliding glass entries all around. welded steel risers bolted to the floor and then to the second floor joist for stairs. The second floor is the master suite that is a little more than 3/4 of the first floor which allows for an observation deck. the second floor deck will be screened in. The master lavatory will be enclosed in glass blocks. I stole the idea of a outdoor shower from you too. I'm going to use engineered lumber for the floor joist. The second floor joist will be capped with 3/4 plywood for subfloor but not sure what will be the final flooring. The second floor walls will be mostly sliding glass doors with gaps for the roof system steel post. the roof will be clear lexan sheets bolted to a metal roof framing system. Easy to build, and cheap too. I plan for it in three phases. 1. foundation 2. lay blocks 3. second floor joist & roof system , lexan roof & second floor walls, first floor sliding glass doors and garage door. That will complete the shell.
Then just finish the rest with short trips and I can leave stuff in the "shell". maybe 2 years in trips lasting 2 weeks at a time ?? The thing is I have to continue to work for many more years but it will be really nice to finish the house over the years then finally retire to it.

Pam,
Some suggestions:
Do you know the PH levels of the trees preferance? You can use the PH tests from the county extension usually and find out what it is currently. plus just what is needed to add. Or you can use a meter like we do here, but is not as good as a completed test. the one we have looks like the one at the bottom of this page.

Your peat will make it more acid, but it breaks down in a season so it will make the ph vary. as will the uptake of nutrients during the year.

Have you gone to talk to Sharkey's coffee and consulted or to see where their's are planted or others in the district in areas near you? Attend any of the coffee growers meetings?
Are there books or papers on growing conditions that you have been able to find?
Here is one from the uni. of Hawaii

Seems they do have some pests that can be detrimental for the younger growing plant especially.

Good luck and happy growing!
