I have 6 acres and don't have the money to fence it. Are there any other effective ways to keep dogs out? I once killed my neighbor's dog while it was attacking my goats and he replaced it with 5 dogs!
Cheapest way to keep dogs off property?

Have you looked into a solar electric fence?
They worked back in Chicago, so I image they are even more appropriate here. Neighbor had 3 acre in 3 tape electric. Couldn't have cost too much, as she never had enough money for anything, and was always mooching... as for oinks suggestion: based on the dog math the neighbor is using, of exponentials of 5, soon the bullet math gets too high! 1 = 5 = 25 = 625....

I was in court recently; kind of the same incident I had with Pam Jones who has been posting recently.
Anyway, there was a gentleman there (defendant) who was before the court on charges because his dog allegedly got into his neighbor's yard and killed her sheep. That could be the answer for you. It's a difficult position you are in without a fence; I feel for you. We just this year fenced in our acres for that very reason. A mobile gate could possibly be made strong enough, but it's highly unlikely. If you can get enough materials to fence in a reasonable area; we'd be willing to help with labor. Good luck.

quote:I haven't looked into a solar electric fence, but I will. My first thought is that the bottom wire must be low to keep the dog from crawling under, but if it is low, then I will have plants growing up and touching it (which will short the wire, won't it?) I have never worked with electric fences before. |
