no but as long as you know where the DSLAMS are and you live close enough you can get 11 meg dsl in any subdivision that has DSL

and RoadRunner in hilo is VERY fast. my friend gets a solid 15/1 all the time... low population means faster internet ifyou can get it!

Don't move to Hilo! The more demand there is in Puna, the quicker it'll come. Then again, this is Hawaii.

That's like saying "If they sell Powerball tickets at the local 7-11, you can buy a ticket and win $50 million." Good luck with that... Even if you know where the DSLAMs serving your subdivision are, if there are no ports , there are no ports...at any speed, let alone 11 meg.

For years, even the FCC has tracked broadband availability by a methodology that asked "Is broadband available in the zip code." But as we all know, a few users in a zip code does not constitute broadband availability. What I want to know is why regulators haven't made internet build out more of a priority for the cable company and telco?

you need to be nicer with the HITEL installers, They will tell you where the dslams are (besides you can LOOK and see) and which area has available ports and which dont, which areas have the highest turn over etc. then do what i say call EVERY DAY at 8am and you will get a port eventually. most subdivisions have multiple "mini COs" scattered throughout them, not all are full.


also all the ports are 11 meg and based your loop length you are throttled

11 meg, 7 meg, 3 meg, and 1 meg.

Never quite seen 3 down here in Seaview, and anytime from about 4pm til bedtime, it's typically below 1 and often slower than a 56k modem. I've been assigned my own customer service rep on Oahu who takes $10 off my bill every month. Basically they charge me what they charge for dial up. If you are paying as much as the 11 mbit folks and not getting it, call until they will give you a partial refund every month. The rep has told me repeatedly how frustrated she feels and that there is no short or long term plan to ever make improvements. Until roadrunner comes into these other areas, there is no reason to think it will improve.

Some interesting (and good) info here.

I had tried to upgrade from 3mb (was getting only 2.1mb, but was solid)
They told me I couldn't upgrade but would have a tech move me from the old legacy network to the new one. Since then, I get solid 2.9mb download speeds with no degradation even during afternoons/evenings.
Still wish I could at least get 7mb though.

Sorry for hijacking my thread back.. lol. It was nice meeting everyone today. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and it was great! I look forward to visiting with everyone again soon.
