Status of improvements to Hwy. 130?
#11
Why not just designate highway 130 as the PMAR and build an entirely
new 4 lane limited access highway ?

It would be far cheaper and a lot quicker.

Highway 130 is so flawed because of the hundreds of driveways that the county has allowed, that it will cost millions more to make it workable.

Another solution would be a complete building moratorium in lower Puna until a solution is in place !!

I wonder if they looked at 40 or 41st street thru Orchidland and Ainaloa as a paralel route to 130?Also If they Extend the turn pocket From 11 to 130 to hold more traffic in que , the light will control the Flow southbound to Puna with the sensors. They need to extend the light phase going south too. Maybe even K rail the lanes so there is no three lanes into two but two lanes south and two lanes turninG to the school. Just a couple of low cost ideas.

I'm sure everyone knows it's needed. BUT, government contracting and procurement is not designed to save money. The whole process, much in place to ensure fairness, cost money. There is really no way to save any meaningful money because what the people want can not be done in a cost savings manner. It's just common sense.

So from what I gather here...The answer to hotinhawaii's question is.... with regard to:

STP28 (Humane Society to Shower Drive widening)...."Tentatively" to start October 2012

And from Shower Drive to Hwy 137 STP27.....To start 2017

As per:

I'm kinda wondering if I'll still be alive when it's all completed!

Bob, it's good to know that you recognize government has a different function than private for profit business.
