I saw at least two local honey vendors at Maku'u last Sunday. One was near the lunch tent (where you sometimes have live music). The other was way in the back. We bought from the guy in the back because he was a little cheaper.

Here's a local cooperative that has great prices and honey products....doesn't look like they have coffee but you could ask.

Yes, Moa'ula coffee is very good Ka'u coffee. Them and Aikane are the best IMHO. Get to go to Ka'u too!

There is a theory that eating honey made from the local pollens is helpful in combatting allergies. I don't know if it has been proven, but it makes sense to me. Mac nut pollen is quite the allergen, so I go for the mac nut honey.
My allergist on the mainland told me this and I've eaten local honey ever since. It's like giving yourself little allergy shots every day, building up your immunity. I know if I skip my local honey for a couple of weeks (if, god forbid, I run out, or I'm on the mainland) I totally notice my allergies coming back. It might be in my head, whatever ... but honey does seem to help me. I'm a lehua honey fan; don't care for the macadamia stuff - it tastes "off" to me.
I used to buy from the guy at Maku'u. Last time I saw him -- six months ago? - he told me that he might not have honey soon, so I guess he ran out. He was concerned about the bee virus, but I don't remember if he said his bees had been struck or not.
Thanks, DT, good info. There's no lehua near me, but sounds like the honey is good.
