Geothermal
Did I understand this right?
They want to put a cable underwater to bring our geothermal power to Oahu?
And that the cost of this cable will be more than the cost to put a Solar system on every house in Hawaii? If so I'll vote for solar...

EightFingers,

Sorry about that. Go to rense.com and search the home page for the phrase, "Fantastic Biological Street Lighting Using Glowing Plants And Trees As An Energy Source" and you'll see the link.

Ormat, NYSE--OR, is known as a "B-O-O-T" foreign company that operates globally, preferably in countries with less regulation. They are designed vertically:
Build, Own, Operate, Transfer. Equipment is generally, "one-size fits all". Bad fit for Hawaii as their hotspots are near populated areas and require specialized equipment. Not to mention the geophysical differences of Hawai'i. They have a poor track record with transparency. As Mr Ha has preached, their first priority is to their stockholders and not their consumers. Hence,"avoided cost" takes on an entirely different meaning that a Helen Keller student could sense as foul.

I have no comment on Mr Ha's Utility Shangrala he wistfully describes as a triple bottom company. That is a hypothetical that exists in a parallel universe. But, I can tell you'al the folks in Puna are upset with the high cost of geo-produced electricity, blowouts and complaints about their health and safety. It seems that rather than advancing geothermal in nearly twenty years, Ormat has given an otherwise great resource, a vertible, black-eye.

Again, I ask the question from you cyber-pedantics, why is calling out Ormat to be accountable like beating on a dead horse?
If not now, when? if not here, where? If not us, Who?

Here's a link to this petition.

"Environmental Health Evaluation

We, the people, demand an environmental health evaluation study prior to any further geothermal drilling.

Norway is also more food secure than Hawaii....but there are caveats to the food security of both...higher taxes & food costs... Icelandic taxes on Pay As You Earn (PAYE) system... with taxation rates starting at just over 37% income (14.4% of which is collected by municipal authorities) along with the taxation for the bankruptcy taxes & corporate taxes....

Isn't that the reason for an EIS.

"We the people demand that a bunch of paranoid luddites quit their irrational rants"

How can any rational person on this Island complain about volcanic gasses when we live on the side of one of the most active volcanoes in the world ???

I'm sorry, but when you compare the release of toxic gas from the great blowout of 1991 to the millions of tons of toxic gasses that have been released from Kilauea since the latest episode started, there is no comparison.

The Health Department and the EPA back this up !!!

Here we go again, Obie is accusing anyone he disagrees with of being a pot smoker. Newsflash for Obie: not all people who have different opinions than you are drug users, some of them just see things differently than you. Constantly accusing anyone whose opinion you disagree with of smoking pot makes you look like a fool.

There are a lot of people whose opinions I disagree with, but I don't automatically assume they are drunks or strung out on prescription drugs or brainwashed by cult like religions. The constant demonization of anyone who you don't agree with as drug addicts is a really lame way to support your arguments.

Iceland may have 37% taxes. Those taxes support things like extremely high quality health care for life, an outstanding educational system that leads to the highest literacy rate on the planet, a sound infrastructure that is capable not only of dealing with things like long, hard winters and volcanos but can also invest in and produce geothermal energy safely and efficiently and a quality of life satisfaction ranking consistently in the top five countries worldwide.
