Who to Vote For?

Aloha Carol,

Your points resonate with me.

As you can see at my website jamesweatherford.com
my economic vision is "invest in Puna" replacing "drive to Hilo".

Furthermore, as Rene has pointed out, the Puna Community Development Plan provides the framework for doing this and, btw, so does the Hawaiian Paradise Park Community Master Plan (2005).

In addition to Village Centers in subdivisions, the PCDP also identifies a business incubator in Pahoa as an action item, and I would look forward to doing what is required to get both going.

Makuu Market provides a glimpse of what is possible when local entrepreneurs have only the most basic access to a market -- a strong and positive customer response to creativity and work that generates income in the local economy. With a Pahoa business incubator and Village Centers in the subdivisions, we can take this response and income generation up several notches.

I wish I could say there was some confidence in a Doctor of Philosophy leading the way on business development in Puna. I can't say that. James Weatherford has his goals for Puna and he will cherry pick the Puna Community Development Plan (PCDP) for the parts that appeal to him... and reject the parts that don't. Just like Shipman Ltd. did and does.
Assume the best and ask questions.

It is interesting that Fred is bragging in his ads that he took the money from the HPP park and will spend it in Pahoa.
The HPP Board didn't trust the County to keep it's word after the land was transfered, and the County made no effort to reassure them beyond "TRUST US". By the way this is the same administration that said they would not haul trash to Kona while they were in fact already doing it.
The whole issued displayed a lack of leadership and responsibility, including saddling every single citizen with $1,000 of debt and interest to pay for it.
I believe the money ended up where it was intended for in the first place, it is just that the charade didn't work and HPP didn't get swindled out of 20 acres of land.
It appears that some of the time you cannot even fool enough of the people enough of the time.

Well I'm back.
Yes, Rene, I remember it well. It seems that whatever I work on gets "the kiss of death."
The people of Paradise Park want a Park. It's documented and the past board should have been working hard to get it done. The County wanted to give them a park and the Puna Community Development Plan says that more parks in Puna are needed. I saw this as the Board in HPP not doing enough to get it done and the County not stepping forward and doing it. No current encumbant gets my vote.
kind regards,
John

I admire a candidate that will step forward and say, "This is where my interests are and I will go forward to make these items work." If a candidate looks at a plan and says that he/she can help in these areas but I can't in those over there then that's ok by me. It might be "cherry picking" to some but it is moving forward instead of doing nothing or blocking progress in my humble opinion.
kind regards,
John
