I bought 1 plant from them several months ago. The plant is doing very well. The young lady (co-owner) that helped me was very nice and helpful to my wife and me. They are located just beyond the lower end of Leilani behind a locked gate, so you need to contact them and arrange to have someone let you through the gate and guide you to the nursery.

Great to hear this Allen,

If I may, did you buy the plant for food or scenery?

Cheers

It was a Bali Golden, so it was for scenery and it was on sale. I bought a few others at the BIAN sale for food. I bought a few others at the Bamboo Society sale at the zoo for food and timber.

Thanks Allen, I appreciate the response. I plan on planting a good deal of bamboo (up in orchid land) for both food and scenery. We've been eating a lot of Thai food recently and I can't wait to have my own fresh bamboo shoots!

Cheers

Did they have a good variety of species? I can't tell from the website whether they have run-of-the-mill stuff or some of the more interesting and exotic varieties. Thanks in advance.

I went to their nursery specifically to get the Golden Bali and just look around. They had quite a few plants and they looked good. I did not ask what species they had. If you email them, they can probably send you a list of their species in stock.

Understandable, yet a little bit of patience until harvest time may be useful. Our bamboo have followed the rhyme someone told us almost exactly:

The first year one's bamboo sleeps
The second year bamboo steeps
The third year bamboo creeps
The fourth year bamboo leaps
The fifth year, one bamboo reaps.

I say "almost exactly" because I thought the third year it had skipped over "creeps" directly to "leaps," but now I see this is because I did not really quite yet understand what "leaps" looks like in a healthy clump of jumbo bamboo. "Skyrockets" would probably be a better descriptor than "leaps".
