whitefly in greenhouse
#1
Hello,

I have had an unussually high population of whitefly in my greenhouse and on my citrus, chilies, poha and other plants this year. The cooler weather has slowed them down, but they are causing a lot of trouble for me. Any idead on how to slow them down.

Thank you.

Food grade diatomaceous earth is an excellent natural way to help control and eliminate flies. Many of us use it largely for fly control purposes. To use diatomaceous earth to lower and eliminate fly infestations, you need to do the following:

I spot treat my plants, by diluting food grade diatomaceous earth in a spray bottle, be sure the water is warm and shake it well, spray on infected area.
Get rid of any guava trees around your greenhouse, they are infested with them and no matter what you use to rid white flies, if you keep the guava trees, you will always have them.
Great site for information on all the creepy critters!

My brother told me they are attracted to the color yellow, so you smear yellow paper with thick coating of vaseline and hang it in the affected plants. I did that, never caught a single whitefly. Just mentioning this to save y'all some time and vaseline.

Hawaii Tribune Herald had an article about Whiteflies in the weekly gardening post.

The post in Big Island Living had Ann's recipe for compost tea which may help with whitefly infestation.
