Hazardous waste recycling today
#1
In case you aren't aware, today is the one day a year that hazardous waste is being taken at the Hilo Transfer Station, ONLY UNTIL 2:30p. From their website,
http://www.recyclehawaii.org/calendar.htm#anchor
here's what they're accepting and not accepting:

Hazardous waste materials being accepted include clean and/or contaminated used motor oil, automotive fluids, all types of batteries, corrosives, mercury thermometers, expired or unused prescription medication, oil based paints and stains, solvents and thinners, garden supplies, poisons, and miscellaneous hazardous household chemicals. In addition, fluorescent lights (new) and compressed gas cylinders (new) will now be accepted.

Materials that WILL NOT be accepted include hazardous wastes from businesses, explosives, flares, biological or infectious wastes, controlled substances (e.g. narcotics), sharps (needles), radioactive or shock sensitive materials, fire extinguishers, detergents, or non-hazardous materials.

Dumping household hazardous waste in your trash, which will go to the landfill, can cause groundwater contamination. Household hazardous waste that is collected on these dates is shipped to Oahu or the mainland for lawful and safe disposal.

Sorry, I didn't think to post this earlier.
