How to get moringa seeds to sprout?
#1
I planted 25 of them in little peat pots to sprout, and hopefully give away- since it seems to be such a wonderful tree. None have sprouted. I have 25 seeds left and want to try this again. Any ideas? I usually have a green thumb, but this time have had no luck. Mahalo!

You can propogate these from woody cuttings as well. Another tree with similar properties is the katuk tree which is also highly nutritious, contains protein and can stimulate milk production in women who are suffering malnutrition. This one again grows easily from cuttings.

Hi Julie, it takes a long time for the moringa genus to sprout! To speed up the process you can soak the seeds in water until they sprout. But the genus is very hardy and you can probably just stick them into the ground directly where you want the seed to grow. Patience! You'll get them.

Oh, thanks for that info. Yeah, I did soak them for awhile before planting. I still have them sitting outside and we get plenty of rain and sun at my house, so I guess I'll just keep checking on them.

I've been trying to get a variety of tree seeds to sprout in my greenhouse. Every day I go and check to see if I see any growth. The only thing I've been seeing is something (probably a bird) digging in the pots. They appear to be eating my seeds. Apparently they really like Kona lime seeds. Who knew? So just make sure your seeds are protected! I'm either going to have to try again indoors or get something that scares away the birds.

Ha ha, Just when I had lost all hope, I thought I'd go take a look at the seeds, and lo and behold, I think they are finally sprouting! It will be a little more time until I know for sure, but if anyone wants free trees for their own landscaping use, please email me, and if I don't get back to you, then it means I haven't gotten it, so try again. Aloha! I think this may have taken 3 months!
