New Pahoa shopping center status
#1
The new Pahoa shopping center seems to be progressing steadily and it sounds like there is no environmental objection. Completion is projected for 2014. Sounds like the post office will be moving, probably about time. It might be tough competition for the Pahoa Village center but it will sure be convenient to have close by. It would be nice if they could add an access road that would connect the two shopping centers, say at the back of the property. Save some traffic at the intersection when people want to go from one store to the next. Just an idea.

From Big Island Now, Dave Smith

The Windward Planning commission will take up landowner Bryson Kuwahara’s request to change the state land-use designation of three parcels of land from agriculture to urban and to rezone them to a village commercial designation.

As proposed, the 104,143-square-foot center would be anchored by a supermarket and contain a post office, two restaurants, medical clinic, dental clinic, garden center and other commercial offerings.

Kuwahara’s proposal includes an 830-foot extension of Kahakai Boulevard past Pahoa Village Road and installation of a traffic signal at that intersection.
