first mortgage company targeted by the feds - from the times:

WASHINGTON -- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Tuesday sued Castle & Cooke Mortgage, accusing it of paying illegal bonuses to employees who steered home buyers toward higher-interest loans.

The suit marks the first time a company has been targeted under new federal loan-origination compensation rules adopted after a mountain of bad home loans set off a global financial crisis.

Why pick a Hawaiian company as the first - or just a handy scapegoat?

Why not? Many Hawaii Real Estate industry related companies of all types stink like a whorehouse at low tide.

Fraud is fraud even in Hawaii.

Nice to see some Law & Order for a change around here!

Why not? In a state known for cronyism and inside deals at the expense of consumers, it makes perfect sense.
