They are sending the plan to the county council- and it sounds like the campus is going to be improved a lot. Windward Planning Commission wants to allow the University to not have to have a giant Road going right through the campus. They are hoping for development inside the campus to be walkable and cohesive. I think this is great and UH really needs to expand and be world class. WE are in the right geographic area to be influential academically! (crossroads of Asia and US-plus the oceanic research, volcano research, and renewable energy research)

You forgot global leader in astronomy. UH is very low key about their accomplishments. Another UH area not often mentioned is biological contributions. UH-Hilo has a seed oyster program that is saving the pacific nw oyster industry, honeybee farming research that is saving mainland farmers from sudden hive death, shrimp farming research that has so far avoided the shrimp farm die-outs in southeast asia, many other areas. One thing though, there is a marked contrast between the science accomplishments of UH-Hilo with the anti-science movement in Puna. It's sometimes hard to believe there is only about 25 miles separation between a community that is moving on in the 21st century and a community that seems to prefer 1100AD Europe using human manure for farm fertilizer and believes they are being poisoned by chem trail sprays as well as choking on geothermal fumes while they smoke their meth pipes.

Provided that UHH can figure out how to "fix" the traffic flow, I care not where the streets go.
