Money for schools at KTA- Kokua program, EASY
#1
IF you shop at KTA, from now until Oct 8th- they will give money to schools based solely on you asking them to at the register. When I check out I just say, "can you give my points to Hilo Intermediate". You can give your points to any school in Hilo, and possibly Keaau and Pahoa also, but I am not certain about that. The points translate directly into a check made out to the schools for cash at the end of the period. Easy!

The Tanigushi family has been very involved contributing to our island community.

I am always amazed at how willing they are to step forward, and get involved in community projects, even in little ways. I know our beach cleanups run much better with their help!

All Big Isle schools are eligible for the points. But when the customer doesn't make a choice, the cashier doesn't get to choose; it goes back to KTA. That's according to the KTA cashier we asked the other day.

She said if she got to choose, she wouldn't pick her alma mater, which she hated, but her sister's school, Kamehameha. Then I said, pick a needier school as Kamehameha Schools is funded by the richest private school trust in the entire nation, including richer than Harvard. Well, that got me into trouble w/another customer in line. But I still think giving it back to KTA is for beans because I find their food prices higher whenever they sponsor this campaign!

And I'd like to encourage others to pick the rural schools for their points as they need the help more.

I was curious as I know no one who works there - are their wages and benefits fair like Cost Co's? I was thinking they may be as most of the bakery etc look like they have been there years.

Our friends at KTA seem happy, but they are a part of this family run business ;~)

Have been going to KTA for years and most of the old timers are still there, they say it's a good company to work for. I also notice if a new hire comes in with an attitude they don't last long!

Good article in 2008 issue of the Honolulu Advertiser about KTA
