But more importantly, what is your fascination with Kona? If you want to know what it looks like, go outside (wherever you are) when the moon if full and the sky is clear. Look at the lifeless barren moonscape. That's Kona. Most people on the lush East side of the island only go over there because 1) family or 2) Costco and rarely 3) Hapuna beach.

LOL... wow! have you ever been to "kona"? the truth is, there is tremendous diversity in the "kona" district. the moon? sounds more like waikoloa or the south Kohala district you are describing. some of the most lush, dense jungle on this island is on the upper slopes of hualalai, think kaloko, holualoa etc. if you go into the south kona district, kealakekua or mauka honaunau it's as wet as parts of puna.. and green for miles... hate to say it, but you have far more climatic diversity on hualalai then in puna.. I've lived in puna, Laupahoehoe, waimea, hawi etc. never in the kona district but have spent tons of time there..both north and south.. it's hilarious to watch the bias.. truth is I love ALL of this island for different reasons, just depends what you're seeking.. alooooooha
