Kava plants
#1
Aloha! We are looking to plant kava. Any resources for purchasing the plant or roots? We realize it takes several years to mature.

Walmart and Home Depot have them at good prices now and then, but its not all the time and sometimes the plants may not look real healthy... maybe also do a search in Home and Garden area of Craigslist, or maybe put a 'Kava starters Wanted' post on Craigslist too.

PS. all Kava ('Awa) is grown from cuttings, it doesnt seed. So once the plants are established you can multiply them by rerooting your own cuttings from the mother plant... also when processing the roots of it when they are mature, you will usually start new plants from the green cuttings....

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha

Found mine at Makuu; that was years ago, they're now big enough to survive the drought of late.

No matter where you find them, but especially if you purchase from Walmart or HD, check carefully to make sure your plants are not infested with either coqui or little fire ants. Don't want to take those home with you.

Mahalo for the suggestions. Craig's List is a good start to get the feelers out there.

I believe I've see them at Pahoa feed and fertilizer. They get some cool plants.
