any Adobe Illustrator users out there?
#1
I just figured I would take a shot.
Using CS 1 on Mac. I know really old. All of a sudden
the Ai icon on ai files is not appearing. Old files
it shows fine. If I open an old file and make a change and close it,
no icon.
Thanks in advance.

Have you recently applied any updates? Updates to either AI or to your OS X. What version of OS X are you on?

It's probably an OS issue, not an AI issue.(Apple hates old files)

1) shut down/restart. If that doesn't work, 2) Run Disk Utility and restart. If that doesn't work, 3) trash your AI pref's. (back them up first bc all your settings are in there)

Also, if you're gonna upgrade, upgrade now (CS6 is current v.). After this version, it's not on disk anymore, it's ONLY available thru Creative Cloud, and if your internet connection is anything like mine, it can't handle it. (If you go Creative Cloud, you could be in for a mess of headaches. I signed up then canceled by the end of the day. couldn't download anything bc of my crappy connection. Got DVD of CS6 suite from amazon in two days, but leave it to adobe to take 4 months to credit my credit card.)

btw, you are talking about ICONS, yes? Not the thumbnail? What do you see if you don't see a AI icon? A blank square? just curious.

Mahalo, Puna Webbers are the best.
I'm running OS 10.6.8. I was seeing a shadow of a blank square. Really hard to find my files too.

Shutting down did the trick.
I will copy and paste your suggestions and save for future reference.

Sue Nomie I hate to say it... but you will probably continue to experience issues if you are running CS1. Apple and Abobe both want you to upgrade (and pay them more money). There are conspiracy people that are convinced that they purposely write bugs into their software to force you to upgrade... but at the very least they merely "no longer support" older software. As someone who uses that software, writes some code, and runs websites that cater to a wide range of computers... it sometimes can be very difficult to be "backwards compatible" for everyone. And at some point I usually just say screw it to the people that haven't upgraded in 10 years. You gotta set your limit somewhere!

If you use Illustrator or other Adobe software a lot you might want to think about their Could subscriptions. It's $50 a month for the entire suite, or $20 for a single app.
