Cat "Care"

We have a stray kitten that we adopted. We want to take good care of her, but don't have a lot of money. What is the minimum we should do for her here in Hawaii to keep her healthy (we are getting her spade at the humane society)? Thanks !

Not sure if they take the same shots as a dog, but in a smaller dose, or not. I've always asked for the "works"(neuter, basic shots, chip) whenever I've adopted, or it adopted me.

There are discount spay/neuter clinics regularly. They may also do shots. Call the Humane and ask. It may not be through them, but they may know. You can buy the shots yourself and give them yourself otherwise. I think Dells has them. It is easy. GL! (and buy the food that lists "meat" as the first ingredient and not cornmeal or something like that). It is more expensive, but they eat less, and cats don't eat much anyhow.

Kittens should receive their FPV, FCV, FHV and CP vaccinations at 7-9 weeks of age. To be sure kittens are well protected against these diseases, at 12-13 weeks of age and at 16-18 weeks of age they receive additional boosters of these vaccines as well as vaccinations against feline leukemia (FLV) and sometimes feline immunodeficiency virus (Feline Aids, FIV).

I know that Pahoa feed has a sign that states they sell dog vaccines, I don't know if they sell cat vaccines. Dells sold cat vaccines last I looked. I can't remember what Miranda's sells.

Kittens need a series of shots to prevent serious diseases as they mature. You'll also want a flea/tick preventative monthly.
