new service for PO box holders, get UPS and FedEx
#11
I use physical address on first line, then "box #####" as second line. Don't use "PO box", some vendor software recognizes the "PO" and won't allow it.

Some vendors say I have an "unverified address" and won't ship, even though I tell them FedEx finds it just fine. Anybody know how to get your address verified?

On a related note, when I googled my address, they showed me Pahoa instead of Mt. View. I emailed google and now it finds me. Maybe that wasn't such a good thing...

Kelena,

After lots of trial and error with multiple vendors, the syntax that's worked best for me is physical address on the first address line and "or Keaau PO Box XXXXX" on the second line. Sometimes the forms are programmed to kick out any "PO Box" address, but the word "or" doesn't trip the alarm. I've also heard putting your fill ZIP+4 number in the address will prevent mis-addressed letters and packages (containing physical address, not PO Box address) from automatically getting shipped back to Honolulu, but I have yet to test this theory.

My understanding is the verified address has something to do with the official USPS a database. We don't get verified addresses because there is no USPS delivery other than the PO. In many places, the only verified address is the PO itself. If a vendor understands this, they might have the ability to override in their system. No guarantees unfortunately. We have that issue with our cell phone provider. Even though our physical address was put into the system as an override maybe 8 years ago, I had a problem with it just last month. Apparently it depends on the software vendor is using. The street address/box# suggestions works well with many vendors, but not those tied to the verified aspect. I did have an instance where I couldn't overcome the verified requirement so I just used the PO street address.

I had a PO box in Mountain View. On a couple of occasions (for legal purposes) I was asked to verify my address by sending them a copy of my electric bill showing my name and the street address where the electric company was providing power. This would also show that the electric company was sending my bill to the same PO box. Obviously this was to verify that I had a real residence and not just a PO Box where I could run a scam operation. On the other hand, this option was not available when ordering stuff online from many vendors.

I thought since I started this thread I would give an update. Shortly after posting it, I did sign up for the 3 free services, and I did get an email from the USPS outlining that I had been signed up for all three. Here are my reviews of the services:

* Signature on File: FAIL. I've only had one item that required a signature, and I got the standard form in my box and had to stand in line just like before to sign for it.

* Text or Email when you get mail: FAIL. What you get is an email in the morning stating that you will have mail at some point later in the day. And I have received this mail every day, including days where I had no mail in my box. Sometimes I get this email on Saturday and when I check my box on Monday- no mail.

* Street address delivery: UNKNOWN. Given the other two failures I've been too afraid to trust that this would work so I have not tried this feature.

Sorry to hear that the new "service" doesn't work as forecast.

This very morning I was just thinking (after a company informed me by email that my letter had been returned) that with today's enhanced technologies the USPS should be REQUIRED to maintain a database of all addresses where they don't currently deliver mail and allow willing participants to have their mail rerouted to their PO box, street mailbox, general delivery or whatever address the intended recipient desires to have their mail rerouted to for FREE to the customer because USPS is failing to deliver mail to all customers. This would be a good first step towards equity for those of us who cannot receive USPS mail at our homes.

We always use APT instead of PO.
Example :

Mr and Mrs Mimosa
Apt # 140
box 967
Mtn View Hi

We never use a PO.Just a box # after the APT #.
Works every time, never had an issue.
Hope this helps

I have a regular street addy, so doesn't know how this service would work for PO Box, but I signed up for Amazon Text when a package get's delivered and it's always been great, I'd get a notice when I was not home that the package had been delivered, worked every time.

Rather accidentally I found the USPS form online for delivering to the post office address with your PO box number added to the P.O. address as "# xxxx", constituting a real street address for vendors. I printed the form, filled it out and took it Pahoa. The person at the desk hadn't heard of this and as there was a long line I asked her to take it to the manager and left my name and phone number. Haven't heard back yet.
