Budget cuts could delay tax refunds: IRS
#1
For all of you who have run up your credit cards and plan to pay it off with your tax refund check, expect a delay in getting your tax return check.

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen says budget cuts just enacted by Congress could delay tax refunds next year.

At a news conference Thursday, Koskinen said taxpayer services will be hurt, and fewer agents will be auditing returns. He said about half the people who call the agency for assistance won't be able to get through to a person.

Every dollar spent on the IRS brings back over $250 in revenue.

Funding cuts for this "frivolous" expense have a purpose, however: the public now has completely unambiguous proof that the politicians are not acting in America's best interest.

Of course, most people will only see "blame" for their delayed tax refunds....

It's just politics. IRS got their budget cut and is releasing misleading press releases hoping to scare up enough drama to restore their budget. Most tax refunds are completely automated. If there is a delay in your tax refund, maybe they were using their resources to illegally target conservative groups and deleting thousands of their emails and shredding hard drives in an elaborate attempt to cover it up.

Almost 80,000 pages in the USA tax code now. Interesting that the word "code" is used to describe it. We have reached the point that even tax law professionals with law degrees can't do their own taxes without using software. I hope North Korea doesn't find out.

There's even a (long-established) name for it: the Washington Monument Strategy. Has been applied repeatedly here as well: interior budget gets cut, "gotta shut down the Washington Monument/National Parks, can't possibly provide the staff, etc. etc.".

Basically the same game that Chief Ranger, Cindy Orlando played in an effort to keep from opening CoC road: "can't possible provide the needed staff to manage the traffic or protect the resources in the lower park....". Federal agencies have their own agenda - and we, the community, don't rank very high on their list of priorities...

Same tactics school districts use ON THE MAINLAND to get their budgets passed. The first service they cut are school buses. Cut athletics and only the "jocks" parents care. Cut advanced calculus and only 5 families care. Cut school buses and EVERYBODY cares.
