The event starts when the Moon begins to enter the Earth's penumbra late Fri. night 1-3-15 at 11:02 pm. The eclipse itself will be short about 5 minutes at 1:58 am to 2:03 am Sat. morning 1-4-15.
Unfortunately weather forecasts are not good for viewing here in Puna as a slug of tropical moisture moves north and drenches Puna. Best bets for viewing would be Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, Kona, Kohala or possibly the Kau Desert.
