If J Hara’s was worried about competition they should have bought the land around the store. Or, develope the land in to a non competition business.
God only knows they had the chance at a cheap price in the 90’s. I think competition and change are good. Change is comin’ and you need to embrace it or it will run you over like a truck without breaks. We stop in the 7/11 in Pahoa quite a bit, and so do a lot of the locals.

I too am disappointed that Benny chose to go with a 7-11 franchise. He had talked about a resturant of some kind. I do know as incredibly nice as he is - seaside bob is in fact working with him tomorrow - he does have a temper... me, I might flame an opinion here, Benny had the ability to flame hara's with a 7-11. Just a bigger scale I quess!

I think Hara's will survive much as Cash and Carry survives Malama and 7-11.
