Keonepoko debacle costs Hawaii DOE 6.5M+

As far as what to do with the modulars, they may be needed for evac shelters, or Red Cross food/supply outlets if these storms become the norm.

The cost of the modulars... works out to $172K each for 22
... what to do with those modulars now.

It will be interesting to see if the county will allow residents to buy them as homes. Will they be deemed good enough to accommodate 30 students, but not good enough to shelter a family of 2 or 3?

The could probably be useful to some of the charter schools.

there's a ton of things they could be used for. not a waste. and prudent planning all along the way. it was nothing short of a miracle lave didn't cross either pahoa village rd, or hwy 130. just keep that in mind.

It looks like DOE will be buying them for Oahu.

"DOE wants to buy them and move them to Oahu to relieve overcrowding on some campuses. Each can hold about 25 students."

So, the county gets its money back and it isn't really a fiasco. That also depends on if most of this expense isn't FEMA covered. The Cemetery road clearing is being partially FEMA financed. It's hilarious, mobile homes are so rare around here, modular classroom buildings becoming available is like a bonanza. They are set up as classrooms, so they probably don't have the interior of a home.
