Is there a restaurant (somewhat new) in Kalapana (I know there used to be & it closed). Has anyone tried it? Is it expensive? What days & hours is it open? We miss going down there occasionally for breakfast or lunch! Thanks for any info. in advance!

You aren't referring to the Kalpana Village Cafe, are you? It was there for a long time, then closed about a year ago. I sure miss that place, really good food

I'm still remembering the great Ahi sandwich I had several years ago!
We talked to the owner right after it closed, and she said the restaurant couldn't handle the bus tours. She wanted to expand the store and offer more prepackaged sandwiches.

Omgeeee the fish sandwich was the best! Another place to get a AWESOME fish burger sandwich if you are in the Hana area of Maui its very similar to Kalapana Village Cafe. It's called Barefoot Cafe on Keawa Place in Hana right on the Hana Bay. funky walkup window. But the Mahi Mahi Burger is to die for.

Yes, I am referring to the Kalapana Village Cafe (they'd put an orchid on your plate); But, the other day we were down that way & there was a sign saying a new restaurant was open (we didn't have time to go check it out as we were working) - that's what I'm curious about.

We were down there today. The place that was the Kalapana Village Café is now a big store. They have a deli counter that will make sandwiches and looks like they had a few breakfast items.
Next door, in the place they call "Uncles" there was a sign saying "Bare Bonez-Q Resturant. Open Tuesday to Thursday 8 to 6. Friday and Saturday 8 to 8. Breakfas (sic) Lunch Dinner."
It was closed so we couldn't try it.

If you ever in Hilo, stop by Cousins Seafood and Bento on Lanikaula. Best Ahi sandwich hands down.
