Bill to make doctors accept medicare
#1
A bill was introduced Friday by the House speaker to make all doctors who practice in Hawaii accept medicare patients or loose their licence to practice in Hawaii. All I can say is.... if you think trying to find a doctor is hard now....wait until this bill passes. With medicare reimbursements of about half what doctors charge...I can see many doctors leaving the islands for greener pastures. Don't get me wrong though...I love the idea of all medicare patients being accepted by every practicing doctor in the state. I myself am on Medicare. But this bill will just make getting a doctor that's accepting new patients very hard if not impossible.

Not much the state can do. The Republicans got Medicare B slashed last year, apparently not many of the peeps paid attention. There is no legal requirement for a doctor or hospital to recognize Medicare as an acceptable health insurance. Many are determining they are losing money by accepting Medicare so they are declining service in favor of full insurance.

It is a Republican platform to completely eliminate Medicare and replace it with an insurance voucher system. They are making good progress towards that goal.
