Testimony urgently needed re: homeowners insurance
#1
I'm sending this out in hopes someone has already prepared comments on Hawaii Property Insurance Assoc. and the need to maintain insurance coverage when facing longterm natural disaster threats. The Senate bill passed gives insurance companies a 6-month moritorium on renewing clients' policies, even those who been paying their premiums with no interruptions but are suddenly faced with a disaster such as active lava flows. This House bill removes the 6-month insurance moritorium for those longtime, paid-up clients.

Sorry for the late notice of this hearing but I thought it was more important to invite your testimony rather than not. Even if you just write in the form below that you support the bill and use a bit of the wording above to say why you support it, there is still 3 hours to submit testimony online (thank goodness they allow us to do that now!)

Here's the request and legislative links:

Rep.San Buenaventura is asking for your kokua in helping pass a critical bill relating to Lava Insurance. The bill aims to fix problems with the law that were discovered during the recent lava flow in Puna. See bill info here: http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/measure_indiv.aspx?billtype=HB&billnumber=370&year=2016

This bill is being heard today at 2p.m. in the Consumer Protection & Commerce Committee. However, testimony will be accepted until the meeting begins.

Please submit testimony on HB 370 in one of two ways:

1. Online Testimony – You can submit testimony online by clicking the link above. Click on the blue “Submit Testimony” button in the top right-hand corner, and follow the instructions in the attached pdf document; or,

2. Direct Email – If you have problems uploading your testimony online, please email your testimony directly to the committee at cpctestimony@capitol.hawaii.gov

3. Respond – Respond to this email with your written testimony, and I will walk your testimony to the committee clerk (MSWord or PDF attachments please).

Mahalo plenty!
