strange problem gassing up car
#11
I find this really interesting. It happened to me in a newish car 2 weeks ago at Paul's (Long's) in Pahoa. 1st time in my life that has happened. I couldn't figure what was going on. Thought maybe it was a pump issue. Guess not. Filled up again in Hilo this week, same way as always, no problem.

I will pay attention when filling up from now on and report if it happens again and if it's the same pump/station.

On your Ranger check the vent tube to make sure it did not disconnect from the fill spout. If so, water can enter and fill the charcoal cans. Also check for a twisted fill hose. Look just inside the fill tube, it changes to rubber just past the entry, a very slight twist will show at the transition point. You can loosen tube at tank side to rotate rubber fill tube to proper spot. Another bummer is the design of the fill tube somehow allows a vapor lock if tank at empty, until about 1/3 full, then everything works just fine. Ford engineers again!
Hope you both don't get as frustrated as this guy!
