Travel - New Zealand
#1
With the topic on Thai travel, thought I'd toss in our travel in NZ.

Summer time and the livin' is easy.

Have been to some dairy farms here. Rather than relying on grain (the high price of which has killed dairy in Hawaii), forage is what is used here -- rotation grazing of pasture, as well as hay and silage. Will it work on Hawaii Island? Might; we'll see...

Also, Zero Waste here is up and going -- no wimping out with "can't" ... rather, just do it! And it is working better all the time at very low cost. These Kiwis have got to be the most frugal -- and happy -- lot I've run across!

Visiting in Palmerston North for the day, on the south end of the North Island; have stayed at Wanganui, Opotiki, and Port Waikato.
Will be back to Auckland for the weekend and then fly out 22 January.

gtill,

As for the toilets: our family lived in Australia ('Oz') for 8 years (our daughter, who joined us here, still lives there).
While we all lived in Oz I was never sure, since I never paid attention to which way they flowed in the northern hemisphere. However, my children assure me that the reverse swirl is real.

As for the geothermal power, we've not visited that or gotten much info; although that is on our list. As for 'Maori run', that may be urban legend. Have heard nothing at all to suggest it is the case.
