Civil Defense Siren Test Cancelled for 9/1
#1
FYI: The siren test for the first of the month, (September) has been cancelled due to the storms approaching. Civil Defense made the decision in order to not confuse/concern the public.

Be safe all.

After consultation with the four counties, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency says it will not conduct siren testing on Thursday, Sept. 1.

The combination of the World Conservation Congress with delegates from 170 countries, a visit by Pres. Barack Obama and the approach of two powerful hurricanes has emergency management officials concerned the siren testing may result in public confusion.

Hawaii EMA Administrator Vern Miyagi says, “The less confusion the better.”

Siren testing will resume in October. Any siren sounding before then should be taken seriously and the public should tune in to television and radio news reports.

Mahalo for the update Opihikao.

Maybe the County workers, Puna schools, and other's should consider a half day tomorrow? Unlike Eselle which came in after dark, This Hurricane Madeline may be dangerously close to the Puna coastline during rush hour on Wednesday afternoon. It may only take one bad accident, fallen tree, or power line on our highway to block or make travel in and out of Puna extremely slow and difficult.
Could or would the new emergency route or road from Nanawale to PP be considered an option during emergency times such as a Hurricane?

Anyway thanks again for the siren update and this new thread.
