Anyone know where I can get brown coconuts? Seems there are plenty of green ones around but I need mature (brown) coconuts that have not sprouted yet. I'm afraid most people either take them all when they are green for the coconut water and others "clean" their trees before the nuts reach maturity because they don't want them falling on people's heads.

Banyan drive. Across from liliuokalani park.(golf course side of the road..) a few trees along that stretch drop nuts all the time. It's all unmaintained trees.

I believe the meat from a brown, or mature coconut is good for dehydrating for trail snack mix, and has more flavor for baking, whereas the green coconut is prized for its water.

I make coconut oil. At least I do in the Philippines. Hoping to do the same in Puna if I can find the right nuts.

Someone has dumped a good number of coconuts at the Hilo-side end of E off of Pilikai to stop vehicle trespassers on Kaloli Point. The problem is that the coconuts make it dangerous for pedestrians as well who wish access to the shoreline.

Big Eye P - What sort of press do you use? No concerns about not pasteurizing or do you just store in the fridge?
