Kenney, Your UV filter sounds like a good Idea. This link may be worth reading as it states that the UV filter does nothing to the RLW. Page 3 of 6 is where you can find this info in the Q and A section.

Puna or Hawaii may have more than one species of RLW.

I have believed for years that Puna has had at least a couple different strains of RLW. Pretty sure that these other strains of RLW cases fall through Hawaii's health care cracks and are often misdiagnosed. jmo
