You obviously grew up in the era when fast food and other minimum wage jobs were stepping stones to better paying skilled work. So did I.

I did too. It paid for in-state college tuition. Is that possible anymore?

People who "got theirs" generally attribute their success to hard work, dedication, and good decision making. But as you pointed out Chas, sometimes no matter how diligent you are, if your job goes away there's not much you can do about it. When a blue collar factory in America closes, the workers can't just follow their jobs to Asia or Mexico. Sometimes (not in every case), and more often than people tend to believe, our success or failure is largely dependent on luck.

Watch football as a prime example. At numerous points in the game the ball will unpredictably bounce directly toward a player from one team, or the other team. That bounce or a series of bounces can determine the outcome of the game. And yet, in the end, all of the announcers will attribute the glorious victory of the winners to their skill and superior performance. And we fans gobble it up.

Those blue collar jobs have come back to the US with a vengeance in the last year or so. Wages are rising rapidly. Too bad that Hawaii doen't want any of that action for its own citizens.

Would you have a % figure for the blue collar employment increase in 2017? An average dollar increase in wages? Links for both?

No links or proof needed. POTUS probably said it so it must be true.

Great. New jobs being created. Almost as good as Obama’s last year in office.

Wages ARE going up. Another reason the minimum wage should be raised, which was the original point of this thread.

Thanks for the support.

From the link:

Over all, average hourly earnings were 2.5 percent higher in December compared with the year before, scarcely keeping up with inflation.

I guess not losing buying power is what passes for economic vengeance these days.

How may people will Ruderman layoff from his own company if the rate goes up to $15 an hour?

Maybe none; $15/hour minimum wage creates its own attrition, wherein the workers don't want too many hours lest they become ineligible for other benefits.
