Original post: "Some said it was a gathering for Kanaka Maoli with ties to the area".

why are you so concerned about the county enforcing the closed barricade, which they have announced would be closed until the facilities at Isaac Hale are safe & functional???
----------------
You are missing the point. It is not about the supposedly non-completed road not being open.It is about police suddenly stopping and ticketing people - because a supposedly closed off area was being used as a private party area. If the CD Director was indeed there, that is even more egregious.

I don't personally know anything about the race, ethnicity, relatives or ties to the County of anyone who was able to drive in. But if the road is CLOSED then I have to ask why some people were let in to drive on it and not others.

why some people were let in to drive on it and not others

Because those are the rules. For everyone.

Leilanidude, did YOU see anyone get a ticket???
The ONLY ticket I saw was in MacKenzie, issued to the white 4WD P-up that decided to park INSIDE the picnic shelter... I REALLY doubt that ticket was because of the barricade, & really hope they will continue to ticket pickups that park inside the picnic shelter!

The road's not open to the public yet. To let hundreds of visitors in before water and sanitation are in place would only give you guys something else to snivel about.

As announced; the road is open to residents and local Hawaiians first.

Nothing to see here folks; remain calm. Go back to complaining about the (finger parenthesis) Protectors.

After reading about the dangers of hiking on rugged lava in Hawaii, the organizers of Britain's downhill cheese run are looking for a safer, less steep venue. Safety inspired. The last race:

Several participants were carried away in stretchers. DLNR officials would be apoplectic at the risk taking.
