Senator Brian Schatz Leads Climate Committee
#1
Finally somebody is doing something, and Hawaii has a leadership role in being part of the solution:

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) will lead a new specialized committee of Senate Democrats aimed at combatting climate change.

Schatz, along with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), made the announcement Wednesday morning in Washington. Hawaii's senior U.S. Senator will lead a group of nine members on the Senate Democrats’ Special Committee on Climate Change.

"What we decided is that if (McConnell) isn't going to do it, we can't wait until 2021 when and if we're in charge of the Senate," Schatz said. "We're going to take action now."

More details on the new Climate Committee headed by Senator Schatz:

Democrats say they tried, and failed, to interest the GOP in forming a bipartisan climate panel. While many Republicans in Congress will now affirm the reality of climate change, the party has not advanced a serious policy proposal in years.

The committee is new so there's no consensus on which aspects of climate change they will target or focus on at this time:

Schatz, the chair of the panel, would have to serve as “chief cat herder” on the issue, one of the members joked. And Schatz, perhaps aware of his tough mandate, refused to say whether any eventual climate bill would aim to keep global warming below a certain number of degrees, or emissions below a certain level. He promised only that Democrats would take action to a degree commensurate to the problem.

“We certainly feel like we have momentum. We have the moral high ground,” Schatz said.

Climate change is real, hard to deny. What to do about it is another matter, people like Al Gore buying carbon credits from his own company to maintain his personal Xanadu makes it look like a scam.
Schatz dosn't have the horse power to accomplish anything, Trump should appoint a Climate Change Czar Person (CCCP). That would get the Russians on board at least.

While Senator Schatz discussed plans for the new Senate Climate Committee, Republican Senator Mike Lee presented his solution for rising sea levels, a fleet of sea horses that would connect Hawaii with the mainland.

Hawaii's congressional delegation were not amused, as were few others, with many describing the stunt as one of the most bizarre ever witnessed on the Senate floor.

After Lee’s presentation, Hawaii’s senators weren’t laughing.

In fact, U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz took to the Senate floor to excoriate Lee on the spectacle.
“This is the crisis of our generation, but this is not a joke,” said Schatz, D-Hawaii.

“I have to say on behalf of everyone in Hawaii, on behalf of young people who care about this ... this isn’t funny. And this requires the party in charge of the United States Senate to take it seriously.”
U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, was also left incensed.
