Puna Parkway History
#1
Aloha,
I have recently noticed that the right-of-way of the Puna Parkway which runs perpendicular to Kahakai Blvd is very wide and it appears to have been a grandiose planning project from some time in the past. On the Shores side it appears to dead ends before reaching Honolulu ahapua'a and on the Beaches side it fizzles out after a couple of blocks before it joins up with an unimproved Beach Road.

Does anyone have any idea how this easement came about and if there are any possible future plans (ha ha). Just curious, and I would like to know if anyone has information on the history and future of this Parkway.
Mahalo.

What a grandiose plan! I just wonder how much they thought it was going to cost to punch a marina into the rock cliff let alone protect the boats inside from the wind and waves!!

When drawing pretty pictures for a land scam, construction cost for something that will never be built is quite irrelevant.

It would have cost a lot less back then than now. If anything new *could* be built now.

I think the coast has very different features before the 1960 eruption.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Thank you for sharing a copy of a marketing map from the era and the related comments. Love the graphic designs of the marina, cove, and resort which leads me to think that the subdividers and marketers of the era knew fully well that they were running yet another Puna land scam of the era. I guess a motto for the time could have been "if we plat it, they will buy"
