Pahoa Skate Park still needs help...
#1
Few would argue that the Pahoa Skate Park has been a success. It is in use daily by large numbers of young people and it is built to last. A great example of community effort.

Fundraising is still needed to close the final gap on construction bills and close the chapter on construction. A fence will be installed soon as a final phase of work but we are still short of money to pay all the bills. About $3,000 total. We simply need to raise some more money and should not have to ask our suppliers to wait forever. Any amount would be helpful....

So Friends of the Parks ask you to donate as best you can to help complete this project. Many Punawebbers are new to the area and this is a good way to paticpate in the village life.

You could mail a check to Friends of the Parks, P.O. Box 644, Pahoa, HI 96778 or call Ginny Aste at 808-965-9869

I sincerely hope the fence is to keep boards IN. 3K is better spent to finish paying off all the good folks +++

The fence budget is taken care of. There are legitimate bills for the overall project which languish. These suppliers have already provided discounts and other generous help. The bills that remain are over due.

Any generous souls out there that can help? It is considered the best skate park on the island and perhaps the state.

And if you want to give but can't get off the couch, you can give to any 501© charity through on online charity brokers for a small processing fee. For example you have give to the Puna Friends of the Park here:
https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/...=990305059

(that's the same Friends of the Parks, right Rob?)

Aw, Rob, you make me blush! [:I] (See my red cheeks!) I had decided not to brag about my contribution here because I’m naturally modest and because it was a rather small donation.

But you've forced me to come out of the closet, to see if I can stimulate some other generosities. I am a very fortunate person and, while far from rich, can live nicely on my pension. So I faced the question of how best to apply the $600 tax rebate to the economy and decided that giving it to local charities would be the best option. Just to give you an idea, I’ve also donated to the Puna Community Medical Center and have arranged to pay for the construction of a keiki bus stop in Hawaiian Beaches, through the Hawaiian Beaches Action Committee.

But let’s get this off me and on to the important subject: Completing the Pahoa Skate Park and helping our neighbors any way we can.

aloha all,

just found this thread and i totally agree, skateparks are great places for the youth (and young at heart!). if you have $5, skip your starbucks coffee and give it to the kids. skateparks provide a positive outlet for kids, great exercise and some aloha.

i am turning 40 this year and just last weekend skated the largest skatepark in the world (shanghai, china)! the most amazing part was that there were only 10 kids (including me) in the whole park! i skated for 3 hours and it was amazing. i'm still skating and can attest to the positive influence it has on kids.

here's the link to the park if you want to check it out:

rob, any way to paste a photo in here? thought you all might want to see an old man skate! [Smile]

take care and support the community...

aloha!
