Incentives in the form of money for return of plastic of all kinds is desperately needed!

I've long heard that sea turtles are particularly at risk.
Do you think this is something that must be instigated at the state level?

I am curious as to what group thought drinking "bottled" water was a better idea. Okay Evian and Madonna.
But whose health is it really improving? Certainly not our Hawaiian sea creatures. The old school glass bottles were not necessarily a bad idea.
Next time someone gets all snotty, and high and mighty about only drinking "bottled" water and not tap water (which can be nicely filtered) you tell them about the Pacific Garbage gyre. Our water here in Hawaii is some of the best tasting water, IMHO - not from a plastic bottle.
(Discovery channel has a couple of shows on the gyre occassionally.)

In San Diego there is a small co-op organic food store where you can get a real milk (cream on the top,no bs) in a glass bottle. The bottle is $1 deposit.Bring the empty bottle-get you $1 back.Nice.

I've ranted before about bottled water, so I'll save my breath about that particular aspect of the plastics issue. In general, though, recycling must be rewarded monetarily, or it just won't happen on the scale that it needs to happen, IMHO. I've got a conscience, and it sounds like most of you here on PunaWeb do, too, but there are hundreds of millions of people, perhaps billions of people, who could care less like Madonna and her ilk, or have higher priorities like trying to figure out how to eat tomorrow. To those kinds of people, it's simply not important to recycle, and so they won't unless there's a bonus of some kind.
P.S. I'm not sure if Madonna is callous, maybe she's a recycler. I'm just following Kapohocat's lead.
Aloha! ;-)

Totally agree that monetary reward is a must.
But just curious, how much is to make Madonna recycle (if she isn't)? )):
