Eradication Strawberry Guava (leaf gall)
#71
Did you catch Richard Ha's Blog today about the 11 Best things to eat?

In his blog he mentions a NY Times Post that states:

Nutritionist and author Jonny Bowden has created several lists of healthful foods people should be eating but aren’t. But some of his favorites, like purslane, guava and goji berries

So here we are in Hawaii... trying to eradicate a healthful food.[^]

I still think we can control it manually.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Heck,

If the county funded me... I would!

I would expect about $10.00 per hour more then my last job with the state since I already know it's much harder work then most state workers would be doing.

Full time w/ Benefits and a guarantee 10 year contract.

Pay would go up $2.50 per hour each year six months of the contract.

I'm sure that they could assemble a few sets of crews of people just like me.

People are starving for work!

I AGREE WITH GREG!
"If we were to prioritize the threats to our native forests, wouldn't Albezia fall somewhere ahead of Waiwi ?

Wouldn't both fall somewhere ahead of bulldozing small (less than an acre) lots?

Just curious."
HE'S GOT THE RIGHT IDEA WHAT ABOUT THE BIG PICTURE? WE BETTA BE CAREFUL BEFORE SOME NEW ANIMAL IS INTRODUCED. THIS TINY ISLAND IS MOSTLY INHABITED BY NONI NATIVE SPECIES, BUT SOME ARE MORE DEVASTATING THAN OTHERS.

Good idea, we could also sell off all the bulldozers and pay hundreds of people to do road grading by hand. Only problem is, where do we get the money?

I tried removing a single guava tree, roots and all. Took more than an hour.
