Dive bag's already packed ready to go. I'm bringin it in a couple of weeks, regardless.

And I second the notion that a quality mask, snorkel, and flippers is worth the investment. Like any sport, if you use the rental junk (like snow skiing or golf), you simply won't have nearly the pleasant and successful experience if you have quality equipment of your own. There's a reason why good golfers have high quality golf clubs - they're easier to use, which means that you'll shoot a better game. For me, snow skiing became a whole different sport once I got my own boots. Using rental skis, boots, and poles, my shins and ankles ACHED at the end of a day skiing. The first time I bought a well-fitting set of name-brand boots, I was comfortable and had a lot more fun, and wound up becoming a better skier.

So far, the money I've spent on dive gear has netted the same kind of result. Don't buy WalMart crap, billy, at least for your snorkeling needs.

Billy, when will you be here? We might have some gear you can borrow for a week....

I rented snorkel gear from Nautilus dive center and got boned hard on the price. i think it was like fifty bucks for two sets for four days. Then when i returned the gear Bills book keeper or wife accused me of tearing one of the fins. the fin had a small tear where the big toe comes out and it was like that when he handed it to me. I did not notice it until i went snorkeling and my toe started to get rubbed raw. When I returned the gear four days later and got T-boned for fifty bucks, i pointed out the small tear and the lady flat out called me a liar when i told her it was there to beging with. Now having over twenty five hundred scuba dives under my belt i know how to use and care for snorkel fins. I also know a little bit about how your suposed to run a dive shop. So imagine my surprise when she charged my credit card twenty bucks for a replacement set. Not happy, not happy at all, especially after i tipped Bill for a real crappy shore dive. But hey, I'm a nice guy, I know how it is.[8D]

Consider contacting Big Island Spearguns in Hilo. They have a dive shop now and are way cool!

I too recommend buying your own decent quality mask and snorkel, at a shop where they fit the mask to your face to ensure a good seal! Mask leak, snorkel no fun.
