Purchasing a New Vehicle, ... mebbe??
#1
I bought my last new vehicle back in 1986.
I decided new vehicles were over priced, with used vehicles giving a much better value.
That has been proven by experience and time.
It's now looking as if the epidemic may have changed conditions.

I consider CL to be a waste of time.
Too many people trying to get rich by lying, and over pricing.

The way vehicles are being priced now, I'm thinking of a trip to Honolulu or California to buy a new vehicle, then have it shipped back.

Thoughts, opinions, advice ...?

This time, I can no longer participate in the primary.

FWIW, There is a blue Third Gen Toyota MR2 w/5sp, air con and only 30k miles on it in downtown Hilo.

You have probably seen it.
Mechanic Owned asking 15k.

Used Vehicles are demanding a very high premium because new cars are in short supply due to the shutdown.
I was going to sell the wifes used car, and get her a new one. checked blue book it was worth 9K, by the time I got around to listing 3 months later, I re-checked blue book and it was 17K, Got more than what blue book said it was worth.

That is the reality of things. You can try to find a used car mainland but they are all really high.

New cars are almost non existent and used have inflated prices.

Depends upon how picky you are. Certainly there would be more options on Mainland or even Oahu.
If you want a Toyota truck/SUV then definitely forget the Big Island as a viable option.
There are still some decent used and new vehicles to be found on island, however.

Big Island Motors has a good selection of new Subarus. Prices posted on website are reasonable. We bought an Outback in Nov 2020 and it was still less than buying from continental US and shipping. New safety features are great and suspension is very comfortable and solid on unpaved roads.
