Gov calls to declare Hawaii County a disaster area
#1
On June 20, Lingle requested that USDA Secretary Edward Schafer declare Hawaii County a disaster area because of the volcanic emissions. A response is expected soon on whether federal disaster aid will be available.

Ok so it's been almost a full month since Lingle requested this.

People aren't getting any healthier.

Now she wants to bring the Feds over via a meeting that wasn't public.

By the time the Feds get here... the Vog might not be as bad.

According to the HVO website, "Kilauea summit is deflating" which I would assume means that the Lava flow to the Sea may soon end.

Too little to late Lingle. [Wink]

You’re a little late in your reporting. This has been covered in many articles over the last few months.

USDA situation is that most disaster declarations result from an event that has a start and stop, or with remedial solutions. Hawaii's volcano doesn’t fit that category so they are on uncharted territory and don't really know what solutions can be offered besides money to the farmer for past losses. They can't stop the VOG so they need time to figure this out.

Damon, you really need to stop looking for conspiracies in every news articles and get your butt out and breathe some fresh air. It’s now muckraking for the sake of muckraking, nothing more.

Damon - The summit of Kilauea inflates and deflates a lot without any interruption in eruptive activity. A few weeks ago it was inflating, and currently it is deflating... but only slightly. This has very little to do with the long term eruptive behavior of the eruption. And, the vent that has opened in Halemaumau is going to discharge gas eruption or not until something closes it.
