ACARI----Is this a life saver or a scam?
#1

While waiting for hours at the airport in Honolulu for a flight back to Hilo the other day with my wife in a wheelchair we meet a very nice lady who lives in Calif. She is one of the main distributers of this product called ACAI [pronounced AH-SIGH-EE] Which is a berry from the Amazon in Brazil. This product is said to have the properties for the very best of life and cure all of your ills. This always makes me skeptical so I asking if anyone has been approached or knows about the berry.

Rather than me trying to explain tap this web site:

Lack - Check your link.

I'd be cautious.

You can view the links here to see why I would be cautious.

*edit* Yes the Noni plant is still up and running.

Damon, did you check some of those links - say, the "Sponsered" sites? Looks like mainly advertising and I didn't see anything really informative, just hype disguised as science. I've seen it advertisied on TV here being blended into fruit juices....

Is the noni plant near the end of 130 still operating?

Acai is in many products and juices now, including my old friend Emergen-C which comes in several flavors and is a genuinely good product.

It's a scam if it's supposed to cure ALL and costs more than it should.

You do not need to buy it from a special company, and they probably overprice it.
Stop in at Island Naturals in Hilo next time you're there and ask about it. The folks working at the supplement desk are very knowledgeable and don't try to push stuff at you.

It's known that anti-oxidants are very good to take because they scavenge free radicals that can turn cells cancerous. I'm pretty sure Acai is a good anti-oxidant, but it isn't the only one by any means. Blueberries is another fruit that's recently been rediscovered as a potent anti-oxidant (they sell 100% blueberry juice).

Tom, you mentioned you were 65. Island Naturals has a senior discount day. I think it is Tuesday. (and no, no relation to anyone at the store, but I like them and am going there today for their vitamins 20% off two Fridays a month sale, so they're on my mind.

I've tried Acai it doesn't do anything for me, but goji berries do.
I recommend those, they can be bought at the health food store prepackage or in the bulk section. Expensive at 20.00 a pound but you only need an ounce a day. They also sell the plant to grow your own.

Acai has issues because of where its grown, its a staple of the diet and now because of the commercialism the natives can no longer afford it.

If you have serious health problems you can try this stuff:
(there is a guy in mt. view thats going to make it.)

Every week there is a new cure all food, vitamin, etc. Those selling such products say all kinds of things but what something does in a test tube is afar cry from what they do in the real world. Go to pubmed (google it) and search for article and Acai or anything else for that matter and see if there are published scientific articles documenting actual benefits. For years, even scientists thought beta-carotene would be an amazing, anti-cancer vitamin because it was a strong antioxidant. Unfortunately multiple studies found smokers that took it were actually more likely to get cancer. Pubmed is a great resource.

Thanks everyone for the help on this acai stuff. It may have some medical value but the marketing methods is where the scam takes place. Selling 750 ml of berry juice for $40.00 should be a crime. And the reason is that there are so many hands in the pie because of the get rich quick scam. Acai did sell for $2.00 a liter in the Amazon region not long ago now it is being marketed here in the good old U.S.foA. where money grows on trees.

On a short note, and I should have known better. “DIABETICS BEWARE” My wife is a diabetic and it is a constant struggle to control her sugar level and after taking just three oz or so of the acai mixed berry juice her sugar went thru the roof over 400 that’s four times the normal and very dangerous. Ounce again thanks everyone.

I tasted it and it taste great, but I’m not that stupid as to pay $40.00 a fifth for some berry juice.

It's real popular with the brazilian crowd and I'm a big fan of an acai bowl as a meal. Acai with granola, strawberries, bannanas, blueberries, raspberries, and honey is great, but the straight acai doesn't taste good at all. It's real bitter and as a sorbet kinda' thing it needs additives blended in such as apple juice and strawberries. So if it tastes real good I'd say that it's because it has extras such as fruit juices -sugar.
