Home Depot tile cutters
#1
Has anyone use one of those cheap wet tile cutters that HD sells? We have to install less than 100sf of travertine tile and wonder if they will handle it. I’ve never installed this stuff before and will be a little slow so I don’t thing renting would be a option here.

I have a cheapie from HD. I laid a little over 100sf of tile on my outdoor deck, no problems.
However, one caution: If the one you buy is like mine, the blade cover/water deflector sprays water directly at you! Be sure to get a plastic apron to wear, unless you want a t-shirt decorated by a mix of water and powdered tile.

Hi Royal, They work great, we bought one on Oahu. Redid all counter tops in one condo, the floor in another, did our little house here. We did change the blade once $30.
For the money the are by far worth it. Back in California we had the large industrial Type $$$ and it didn't do that much better. Rentals can be expensive and sometimes abused. Having a saw at your waiting minute is worth $90.

Royall, if you want to borrow ours, just call (we still haven't used it, & you will be moved in before we do need it...)

Thanks Carey, we'll probably take you up on that offer. I don't think there will be that many cuts to make at least I'm hoping there won't be!

I bought one years ago, cost about 100 bucks. I've used it so much that I wore out the original blade. It comes with a blade that is only partially coated with diamonds and it will wear out after maybe 3 or 4 rooms worth of cutting, lots more than you're talking about. I upgraded to a 75 dollar blade and it is still going 16 years later. I use it now frequently to slice indiviual stones, glass bricks, and tile. It handles everything but metal.

One tip regarding the spray. stand to the side and feed your work in sideways. It will still spray but just not spray you.

Hi Brad. I brought this forward for you to check out. Hope it answers your questions.

I used Jim and Carey's saw and it worked great. I was cutting 16 or 18" travertine tiles. I'll be using it again to install the granite tile in the kitchen soon.

Thanks Royall for bringing it forward. I'll have to learn to do that some day.
