Stair Riser Height
#1
Can someone tell me (with a degree of certainty) what the max riser height is here in this county? I've seen it from 7" to 8" other places. My new steps are at exactly 7 7/8" and I'm wondering if I may a big boo-boo. My tread it right at 11"

My UBC section 1006.3 shows residential use with a rise
of 8" maximum.

You should be fine.

Rob - I thought it was probably 8" here. That is what Argus said too. But since no one at the Building Permit Office is there to answer telephone questions, I thought I'd throw it out to the experts here. I have heard that the inspectors are very picky about stair details here. I didn't want to get the railing on and find out that I have more to take apart to fix it if it isn't OK.

Inspectors can be quite picky about stairway and railing issues.

The standards are different for residential (less than 10 person occupancy) and other typs of buildings.

The steps aer not allowed to vary by more than 3/8".

Risers can change from one height to another only if there is a landing between the stair sections.

The minimum run for you is 9"

How is the "Shop Project" going ? have you hooked anything else up? I always enjoy seeing things in progress and the format you use to post the pics allows me to view it on my PDA so i can see it on the run. Anyways, Thanks for sharing.
